Capacity is a commercial decision disguised as a packaging one. It sets your retail price point, your fill cost, your shelf presence and your repeat-purchase cycle.
30 ml — accessibility and trial
- Lowest retail price point, easiest impulse purchase
- Strong for new brands, seasonal launches and discovery sets
- Lower fragrance fill cost per unit, which protects margin on expensive formulas
- Compact for e-commerce shipping and travel regulations
Watch out: a small bottle needs presence. Heavier glass, a substantial cap and a well-built box do most of the work.
50 ml — the balanced standard
- The most common core size in fine fragrance
- Comfortable price point for gifting
- Realistic usage cycle — repurchase happens while brand memory is fresh
- Works across department store, boutique and online channels
If you launch a single size, 50 ml is usually the safest commercial choice.
100 ml — value and shelf dominance
- Best value per millilitre for the customer
- Strongest physical shelf presence
- Favoured by loyal customers and by travel-retail
- Higher fill cost and higher inventory value per unit
100 ml suits established fragrances with proven repeat demand. Launching only in 100 ml asks customers to commit before they know the scent.

Building a range
A common progression:
- Launch with 50 ml as the hero
- Add 30 ml for trial, gifting and e-commerce bundles
- Add 100 ml once repeat purchase data justifies the inventory
Sourcing implications
Each capacity is a separate SKU with its own mold, its own MOQ and its own component specification. Standard MOQ is 5,000 pcs per SKU from existing molds, so a three-size launch means 15,000 pieces of glass plus matching caps, pumps and boxes.
Two technical details when scaling across sizes:
- Dip tube length changes with bottle height — confirm per SKU
- Decoration artwork must be re-scaled, not simply reused; print area and logo proportion differ on each body
Sampling runs 7–15 days for stock molds, plus 7–10 days when decoration is applied. Terms are 30% deposit and 70% balance before shipment.
Practical recommendation
Start narrower than feels comfortable. One well-executed size with excellent decoration outperforms three under-funded sizes competing for the same shelf.
